To design, develop, and assist Demers Ambulances in the making of a new specialized work seat for paramedics.
Objectives
This seat is the result of a cutting-edge user study and physical testing conducted by Brio Innovation in collaboration with Demers Ambulances for the whole paramedic workspace. Our goal was to leverage the enormous potential of a compact seat offering more mobility, comfort, and safety. We also had to come up with simple solutions to this complex technical system.

Approach
To break free from existing paradigms and to challenge the status quo, we analyzed numerous paramedic care scenarios, ranging from the most life-threatening to the less harmful ones. The conclusion was striking: Most seats currently offered in the industry do not provide sufficient mobility to care for patients and access the healthcare equipment needed comfortably and efficiently. Together with our client, we designed a new, compact, adjustable and swiveling seating system, allowing the paramedic to move around, while being belted, thus guaranteeing his safety.
Brio innovation has created a contrast between the fluid lines of the ergonomic cushions and the structured lines of the shell which represent the protective element. This seat clearly conveys a modern and elegant look. The outlines have been slimmed down as much as possible, communicating an impression of lightness and integrating the seat perfectly into the limited ambulance space.
Results
Simplifying the life of paramedics also means ensuring the highest quality of patient’s care. This major project enhances Demers Ambulances' values of innovation and excellence.
